How to fix a leaking faucet
A leaky faucet is the culprit. Whether the problem is an annoying constant drip or water pooling around the faucet handles, a leaky faucet is definitely the culprit. So, here are some easy steps to fix it:
For this task you will need:
- Pliers, socket wrench, or hex key (nuts)
- Screwdriver
- Calcium remover
- Needle pliers
- Multi-purpose knife
- Faucet spare parts
1) Shut off the water: Close the water valves under the sink, then turn the faucet handles. If the water stops flowing, you have turned off the water correctly and you can start the inspection process.
3) Check the handles and turn the faucet . Many faucet leaks are related to the handles. Remove the cap from the handles and/or remove it from the faucet. The handle has many parts, such as plugs, rings, o-rings, and the crank. Each of them can be replaced without the need to buy new handles.
To replace the faucet core, remove the old faucet core with pliers. There may be a screw or nut securing it. Insert the new faucet core and tighten it in place.
4) Clean with calcium remover. Clean the flaky parts with calcium remover or a safe plumbing solvent before completely reinstalling the faucet. This will prevent any further damage to the faucet parts. You can do this by removing the internal parts and soaking them with calcium remover, or by spraying calcium remover inside the faucet in a good and safe way. Please do not forget to wear gloves to maintain your safety.
5) Reinstall the faucet parts . Make sure each piece of handle is installed correctly and securely and then turn the water back on to see if there is a leak. Make sure to test hot and cold water separately. If the leak is still present, you should call a specialist.
