A guide you should know before purchasing an air conditioner

When the room gets hot. There are many questions asked by people who plan to install air conditioners in their homes or apartments. In our guide, we try to answer them.

Who uses air conditioning and when?

There are homes where the temperature is ideal even in the middle of summer and family members feel comfortable. There are also houses that, on summer days, even those that are not very hot simply cannot stand it. Hot, humid, stifling environments… In those moments, we only think about how to lower the temperature in the rooms.

There are many factors that affect the temperature of a home. When we discover the conditions that affect us in our home, we can get down to business: choose an equal air conditioning system.

Factors affecting house temperature during the summer

  • Glass walls , large windows and balcony doors provide a significant increase in heat in winter, while in summer they cause problems of overheating of rooms. When deciding on such a fashionable glass today, you should consider the use of tinted adhesives.
  • Inadequate amount of sunscreen : The use of umbrellas, curtains, especially those outside, reduces heat gain from the sun well. Roller blinds or interior blinds are heated through the glass and give heat to the room, so their efficiency is definitely lower.
  • Lofts – are more likely to heat up than rooms on the first floor under an attic or in a two-story house. This is because the attic creates a barrier that retains much of the solar heat, the roof is a thermal barrier, and windows in the facade let in much less solar heat than roof windows.
  • External wall insulation : Well-chosen building thermal insulation is a guarantee that heat will not escape in winter and will not penetrate in summer. Taking care of the correct layer of insulation in the home significantly reduces the risk of overheating.
  • Framed buildings : They are more susceptible to temperature changes, because the weight of their walls is relatively small. Therefore, the temperature inside such houses can rise very quickly due to heating by sunlight coming through the windows (the walls do not absorb heat).
  • Room height : The lower the room's height, the higher its temperature. Since hot air is lighter than cold air, we will feel less discomfort in rooms higher than 2.5-2.7 meters.

What type of air conditioner should you choose?

  • Portable air conditioners are the cheapest solution. It can be easily moved from one room to another. Their disadvantage is that they are noisy and have relatively low cooling power, as well as the need to discharge the exhaust air to the outside (for example, a pipe protruding from a window).
  • Window air conditioners are one-piece (monoblock) devices. They are installed in the building envelope (wall or window). Unfortunately, they do not look aesthetically pleasing and make a little noise, but the current atmosphere is much calmer than their predecessors.
  • Split air conditioners (removable) are among the most popular types of air conditioners. It consists of two units: external , which dissipates heat outside the building and internal , which reduces the air temperature in the room. A split air conditioner is more efficient than a one-piece appliance.
  • Multi-split air conditioners They are devices used to regulate the temperature in different rooms. The system consists of an external unit and various internal units . A different temperature can be set in each room.
Split and multi-split air conditioners are distinguished by the fact that the unit that emits the greatest amount of noise is located outside the building.

Air conditioning with refrigerant R32

Refrigerant R32 has a lower greenhouse effect potential (GWP - Global Warming Potential). 30% less of this agent is needed to fill an air conditioning system than R410A . It is important to note that the R32 factor improves the energy efficiency of an air conditioner by 10%.

How to choose the strength of the conditioning?

To calculate the power necessary to cool an air-conditioned room, a special program is needed. With their help, sellers can very accurately determine the demand for refrigeration, for which they can choose a custom-made device.

For rooms of standard height (2.5-2.7 m), we can try to choose the power of the air conditioner ourselves. It is then assumed that 0.1 kW is required per 1 square meter of room surface. For example, a 2 kW device will be suitable for a room of 20 square meters.

It is important to note that manufacturers make it easier for us to choose. In their technical papers, they often provide information about the room, and in what area a particular model will work.

However, it must be remembered that if the room is not closed, and the air flows freely into another room, then the sum of the area of all the rooms between which the air flows must be taken to calculate the power of the conditioned air.

Basic air conditioning functions

Air conditioners can perform different functions. The basis is cooling. However, heating or cooling devices are being chosen more and more frequently.
While the concepts of heating and cooling are probably familiar to everyone, the concept of a complete air conditioning system may be even more valuable.
Complete air conditioning system when the device not only allows us to cool or heat the room, but also controls the humidity level inside; If necessary, dry or moisten the place.
It is also important that modern air conditioners are equipped with appropriate filters that ensure the purity of the air in the house and additional functions, such as motion sensors or control via Wi-Fi.
